Noun: A player in a team game who leads attacks or brings other players on the same side into a position from which they could score.

Every team has them.
In fact, some teams rely heavily upon one or two players so much that when they have off games (because it happens) the results can be unfavorable if their only plan of action is to hit the go-to-guy all day long.

The 49ers have something special. Something different. It seems as though every game, a new Playmaker arises on offense, defense and special teams. Sure, you have the players that are always ‘touching’ the ball, but I’m talking about those guys that do more than just fill up the stat boxes. It could be their willingness to sacrifice their body blocking play after play to move the chains, or the 2nd string QB because he is versatile and provides a change of pace, or even the guy on defense that suits up & is active for the very first time. You never really know who’s going to be ‘that guy’ week in and week out. The 49er coordinators do an excellent job utilizing player skill sets to devise schemes in order to avoid being predictable. Ultimately, it makes game planning especially difficult for the opposing teams!

You think you know… but you have no idea.

I traveled out to the East Coast last week to meet the 49ers in Rutherford, New Jersey. Shooting my first real road game (Oakland doesn’t count, and Dallas was only preseason) and experiencing what it’s like being the ‘Away Team’. The atmosphere was lively and the weather was perfect! In addition to the number of  49er fans that reside on the East Coast, those that live on the west or other various parts of the US travel really well.. MetLife Stadium looked like Christmas with all that Red & Green.

As you know, the game started a bit slow…but once the 49ers started rollin’.. not much could stop them! They left the Jets deflated, defeated and were repeatedly denied access to the red zone. The J-E-T-S were chased out of their own stadium by the end of the 3rd quarter, and ended the game without ever putting a single point on the board!

Whomp.. whomp.. whomp!!

Here are some of the ‘Playmakers’ I picked from the NY Jets vs 49ers game:
